Assisted Yoga combines gentle assisted yoga poses, pranyama, massage, acu-pressure & energy work. It is dubbed 'Lazy Man's Yoga' as you relax and I do the work!

Yoga Therapy with its amazing multitude of techniques and gentle adjustments releases blockages, bringing the body back to equilibrium and assisting the ever present natural healing process.

    Why does this work?
Assisted Yoga consists of passive stretching, which affects the muscle tissues and nervous system quite differently from active stretches. During active stretching, the brain essentially sends signals to the muscles limiting the extent of the movement to prevent injury. It says "This is how far it is safe for me to go". When a muscle is stretched beyond its "safe" capacity, the brain sends it a signal to contract quickly to protect itself, resulting in a cramp. In Assisted Yoga we can safely go beyond the perceived safety zone as the muscles and connected tissues are relaxed, therefore dramatically increasing flexibility.

And then there is "muscle memory": muscles that have been in a tense position, or doing a repetitive motion, over a long period of time, quite literally "forget" what it means to be extended and relaxed. Indeed, the muscles (and the person) believe they are relaxed, but in fact are not. The movements and passive stretches "remind" the body (& the brain) that it can indeed move in a given direction, and help the muscle tissues and fibers to lengthen, helping them return to their natural lengthened state and achieve a greater range of motion.

Assisted Yoga is performed on mats on the floor with both client and practitioner in loose comfortable clothing.

'I had a constant pain in my left side and groin from an old soccer injury. I thought I was just getting old and would have to put up with it.  I have been coming to my one on one classes for 6 months now and am now pain free and playing again!' - Dave, Port Alberni
